Large Security
I recieved a large back pay check from Social Security for my son will I get a refund or will I end up owing?
In 2009 my son's social security disability finally came through. The back pay check was over ten thousand dollars. Do I need to claim it and if so will he get a refund check or will we owe the IRS?
No, I was in the same situation years ago, i didn't have to add it as earned income and the checks I received every month after. I still filed my child as a dependent every year and did not include that income. I was told it was like an insurance settlement payment if you were a beneficiary. Unless the rules have changed recently, but I don't think so.

county and city police officers were competing for a large security contract.........?
county won the large contract for that nights concert, in a small town in my area, after concert a fight broke out at a convenience store nearby, the city police was called, the chief ordered his officers not to respond because since the county got the contract it was their problem. now he is in hot water over this. was he right or wrong? law enforcement officers answer only please
If the fight was inside the city's jurisdiction, then the city officers not only should have responded, but are legally required to do so. If the county officers get there first and get it all under control before the city gets there, that's fine. But for the city to just not go and expect the county to handle it is wrong.
If the chief is getting this petty and spiteful over losing one security contract, it sounds like the city and county have a lot more problems working together than just this one incident.
