The handle/cover will not come off a lever-handled faucet after removing screw?
I removed the screw from the top, but now the cover will not come off so I an access the stem and change the washer.
Am I missing something? I have lifted on it pretty hard and it seems really attached. But I don't see any other screws or anything. All the faucets in the on-line guides and instructions are round handles, not levers, so I am a bit unsure.
Help! I am plumbing challenged but I want to fix this faucet!
Thanks everyone. I worked it off eventually with a big pair of channel locks (with tape over the grips).
I successfully changed the washer and the drip is gone.
There is a handle puller available at most hardware stores. This is not uncommon.the moister and corrosion can make these a bear to remove. You can also spray some oil on the stem to help loosin it. The puller is 8-10 dollars. Please take time so pick a best answer when you get it fixed.

Hi Zico,
I think it is short-sighted to dismiss newly popularised finishes such as black nickel as a fad- for sure they are very fashionable right now, but the market has expanded and nowadays people want choice and something more than the usual brass/chrome offerings, so they will have a place for a good while. Black is a popular finish in many other interior design products, so it stands to reason that it will stick around too.(Although I will consent it may not remain as fiercely popular as in the last few months) People have been saying the popularity of Chrome and Satin Chrome over brass is a fad and brass will be back, for the best part of 6-7 years at least- yet it has only continued to grow.
You are definitely right about the drop in quality- 8-10 years ago the majority of products being imported were from Europe or at the lower end of the market India, but they were brass based and produced on a smaller scale. Today China dominates the export of most UK-sold door handles and these zinc based products look great at first glance, but to the more discerning consumer are not of the same quality. It is worth noting though that they are considerably cheaper, and that better quality lever handles are still available at a price in line with what they always used to cost- its just that now the cheaper lower grade handles exist, this has set a new, lower benchmark for the cost of handles and customer's expect the quality brass based products to be available in this price bracket.
Its the old “Rolls Royce for the price of a mini” adage and you see it everywhere.
For what its worth, there are still good quality ranges offered by a number of companies commonly available and if you know where to look and what you are looking for, you will occasionally see them. (I recently needed 60 sets of these Titon Lever by Eurospec so I phoned them up- they did me a great price and the handles are literally flawless quality.)
