Where do you draw the line? How do you share Liberty without loosing it?
Engraved on the statue of Liberty you will find the following:
"...Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me..."
How do you define the line between granting refuge and peace for those who are seeking a better life and those who are taking advantage of the US? Could you really refuse the "huddled masses"?
Is there a way to allow the US to be a safe haven from all that oppresses liberty and still maintain the freedom we have fought for.
We fought for the liberty of all men and women. If they seek a home here, it is our duty as Americans to help them.
How do you share Liberty without loosing it?
As the saying goes, limit to ones freedom is when it encroaches someone else's. I would draw a parallel here to answer your question.
THe line to sharing liberty is where it diminishes the country's overall capacity for liberty. It is just impractical to grant refuge and peace for all who are seeking a better life and taking advantage of the US not to mention the huddled masses.
How in the world can we share liberty considering one aspect, of health coverage, when 40 million Americans have no medical insurance? when going at the current rate, Medicare would be bankcrupt in less than 30 years?
We can only afford those whose lives are in danger if turned away for now. Until we get our houses in order, that's where I would vote the line to be drawn.
