Lock PadLock
What is a good bike and lock for a beginner?
Well I got a great new job and its only three miles from my house so I decided I would take up cycling.
Should I buy a cheap bike ($90ish) or just get one of the nice professional bikes ($400+)?
And which kind of lock should I get?
If I just get a chain and a padlock, would that work?
How many people have really had their bikes stolen from a guy who happened to have chain cutters?
I applaud this plan, I wish I could bike to work.
If you're riding every day and locking up outside all day you should really invest in some quality equipment. In a bike shop you should spend $400-$600 for a decent hybrid plus another $50 or so for a good quality U-lock. If you just want single speed then the bike will be considerably cheaper.

How can I clean a padlock?

I have a padlock that won't close properly because it had liquid in it. Is there anyway i can clean it without making it rusty?
Its a lockwood lock.

Try spraying WD-40 into the locking part; WD-40 will displace moisture, so it won't rust, and lubricates metal parts well. Hope this helps
