Nip Unopened

Needing suggestions for a lab who guards any new bones and food by growling and nipping.?
My yellow lab finally crossed the line yesterday. We are remodeling our kitchen and have everything in bins on the floor. Without our knowing, there was a brand new unopened bone in a bin on the floor. Our dog was sitting nicely by the bin all day. My two youngest kids simply walked by her and she bit my 2 year old's hand. He had 2 puncture wounds. We went to the ER and he's fine. Anyway, we realized about the bone later and that she was guarding/protecting it. She has had this issue for awhile with new bones. She will sit and protect it forever. She growls if even my husband or myself get close. This is unacceptable so now we give her new bones in the backyard by herself for about an hour and then she's fine...no more guarding. She also growls if the kids come too close while she's eating. I don't like it. What can I do?
You've let her become the alpha. She has no business guarding new bones, she should not consider herself the owner of the bone. Don't demean her by letting the child own the bone, but teach her that she doesn't own it. The bone belongs to the boss.
When you bring a new bone home, show it to her, then put it on top of the refrigerator. Let the bone be a reward treat, not an owned object.
If she pleases you, get the bone down and give it to her. After awhile, take it back without drama and put it on top of the fridge till next time.
Does she bury them? That brings in different considerations.

Why would a state trooper plant alcohol on someone?
I know there are some of you out there who don't believe that this happens but it does. My fiance pulled over this weekend for owing excise taxes on his car. Yes, that is wrong. Well, he got a ticket and got towed. When he went to pick his car up there was a vodka "nip" (small bottle of alcohol) on his passenger seat unopened that was not there before. He thinks the trooper was planning to open it before the tow truck driver got there. My fiance doesn't drink and wouldn't have had this in his car randomly. Why would a person in law enforcement do this? Where is the justice here?
Please don't tell me this doesn't happen because I know it does with corrupt law enforcement and they are out there.
It does indeed happen. Do report it to the defending attorney AND that trooper's supervisors - they'll need a heads up on the potential liability they have on their hands. BTW, in the early Seventies I had two Missouri cops plant a tab of acid in my Ford during a harassment stop. I put up a huge fuss right then and there in front of my friends and the cop put it back in his jacket and didn't push it.
