why target pedofiles in prison?
1. A violent thug who does a post office robbery with a shot-gun - oh he is all right. A good honest criminal.
2. A burgler who comes into your home at night and steals all he can. Your home never feeling safe again - Oh he's a good lad.
3. A drunk driver who mows down two elderly people, killing them - oh he's ok.
4. A pedofile - Oh he's a nonce. Not a good honest criminal like us. Lets kill him.
It makes me sick the hypocracy of criminals thinking one is better than the other. If I had my way all these crooks would be so controlled in prison, they would NEVER think about other inmates.

While "pedophelia" is still a crime, and should be, I have to agree with you. Unless the criminal rapes a child in an attempt to kill that child he should NOT be treated as a murderer.
I would say a pedophile is worse than a burglar or robber, but better than a murderer or drunk-driving murderer (drinking is no excuse, they chose to drink it's still murder).
I rank these types by how permanent the damage they do is, not how "cool/uncool" they are. I raped child IS seriously harmed but, on the other hand, is at least still alive, unlike someone who has been murdered. The problem I think with many people...is that they let their emotions get in the way of thinking objectively and weighing the evidence intelligently.
On the other hand, I do recognize the danger of leaving people with in-born (in the same way gays are attracted to the same sex) dangerous tendencies in public. The fact is, while gays have education to realize what they are doing (and thus their decision to have sex is informed and not destructive), the children who are victims of pedophiles don't.
They don't need to be "jailing" or killing pedophiles, so to speak...but they do need to be keeping them away from children, locking them in communities (say desert or island communities) they can not escape which, although otherwise normal, do not have children in them.
I agree the whole idea of "cool and uncool" criminals makes me sick though...and ultimately they need to be in separate societies controlled to prevent their crimes...rather than simply jailed or killed.
