Outlet Plug
I have a 4000 watt heater. I have a 30 amp double pole breaker. Do I need a 20 or 30 amp rated outlet & plug?
I already have a 20 amp outlet and plug as well as 10-2 wire.
The heater is a 4000 watt, 240 heater. I already have a 20 amp outlet and plug.
It is a heater with a plug in. I'm only using it for when I'm working in the garage. The current plug says 240 volts. I have to replace the plug because I can't find an outlet to match it. Do I need to take back my new 20 amp male plug and 20 amp outlet to get the equivalent 30 amp to use with a 30 amp double pole outlet? It doesn't need a neutral, so I know I have to tape the white wire and connect the ground to the ground bar. My main problem is what kind of plug and outlet to buy. I know I need a 30 amp breaker because it's drawing 16.6 amps, which is too close to 20 amps. The back of the heater only says 4000 watts, 240 volts. It's just an old space heater.
amps = watts/volts
A = 4000/240
A = 16.7
You can run this off of a double pole 20A breaker, but since you have the 30A breaker and the 10-2 wire, that will work too. What kind of heater is this? Is it a permanently installed heater or one you want to plug in? Generally, with wattage that high, it's designed to be hard wired. Another question is whether a neutral is required or not. If it is, you would need 10-3 for a 2 pole 30A circuit.
As for the receptacle, you would need to use a NEMA 6-30. You can't use a 120V receptacle with 240V. Be sure that if no neutral is required, and you use the 10-2, mark the white wire on both ends with a marker to identify it as a conductor. Hope this helps.

Ground wire make up in plug outlet.
Can you use a product with European electrical rating 220v in a USA outlet 110v if the plug fits USA outlet?
I want to know if there is any danger and if it could potentially ruin the electrical of the product. All the product has is a light and a built in outlet to plug other appliances into it like a hair dryer etc.

If your product is an incandescent light or other type of resistant load (having only a filament or heating element), then you won't ruin the appliance. However, you will get reduced output of the appliance at a lower voltage. Anything other than this type of load and you will most likely ruin the appliance because it is not made to work at a lower voltage.
