Panels Plates Bulletproof
What type of metal (thickness, alloy etc.) can stop most bullets (9mm through mag)fired from an avg distance. ?
i'm stripping down my interior in my 72 buick skylark. for my own reasons i need to increase it's strength and security.
my plan is to take off the door panels and reinforce them with some welded in metal plating. i'll also eventually do the fenders quarter panel and trunk. i thought about draping kevlar but hear that it was more expensive.
i've also hear bulletproof glass is expensive so my alternative is to take off headliner and install slide down sheet or plate metal to protect most of the windows in unfortunately difficult situations.
later on i'll want to re-inforce the cars body/frame to increase the strength. so it can take impacts without it bending the frame.
if there is a better way of going about doing this let me know. but i am doing it myself at home i have the tools i need tips on materials and methods.
no ATeam influence. i have to cross borders south of texas for my work that takes me into places that arent the safest places

I have a different opinion on what you should consider... Dont treat your vehicle like its a rolling tank or make it a mobile fort....
The main thing is to immediately get out of the area when the poop hits the fan.....
Also consider a 4x4.... nothing big and huge but something that can hop curbs and and drive over people if they get in the way. A Jeep Cherokee is fine.......
The idea is to extricate your self from the problem... Not stick it out in a mobile coffin....
Bullet proff glass is real expensive.... Even if you can afford it there will be people that will recognize it and wonder what you got???
The idea is to be low key..... You can put metal plates in the doors and behind the seat... No need to reinforce the whole car....
there are 2 bullet threats... Pistol and rifle cartridge... 1/4 inch and 3/16ths easily stop 9MM and other smaller pistol cartridges but are absolutely worthless in stopping 7.62X39MM or .223 rifle cartridges.... High power rifle cartridges will cut thru thinner metal like butter.... The car would practicaly have to built like a tank to stop rifle rounds......
I think mild metal plating against pistol cartridges is all you need. AND a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get away quick... If you need more then get a different job....

pretty thick stainless steel ( rust will make it week)
