Pistol Draw Safe
Questions about the Springfield XDm and HK P30?
I'm a police officer working for the SAPS (South African, not San Andreas 
), and I am looking for a pistol which can fulfill my CCW needs. After much reading up and taking into account the firearms support in SA, the Springfield XDm and HK P30 look like the final contenders. My questions:
1.How do both pistols shoot in terms of accuracy and recoil?
2.How reliable are they? (Keep in mind department issue ammo is sometimes crap)
3.CCW possibilities?
4.Springfield - How safe is it to carry it with a round in the chamber? Being able to just draw and shoot straight away with two safeties in place is a big selling point for me.
5.HK - Is the extra $300 worth it?

They are both quality weapons. Personal preference is really all that matters. In regards to carrying the Springfield in condition one, you can deploy either weapon in the same basic amount of time, unless you carry the HK unloaded there is really no difference

Carry Pistol with or without holster?
I have a Taurus Millenium pro pt140 (40 cal. single action with safty switch), it's a pretty small auto handgun that can easily be concealed (and yes, I have my CCW). I want to carry concealed iwb (in waist band) in the front but Im not sure if I should use a holster or not. I hear it is alittle safer but it will also add bulk and may add drag when it comes to drawing the weapon in a life and death situation. I am of average weight, no gut, I dont like ankel straps or lower back carry as I feel it takes too long to draw and is a bit less comfortable. Is a holster alot more safe? or is it just a way to get an extra buck out of you?
Great answers so far, just want to add some food for thought here. Sooner or later when you're out and about, you'll have to use the facilities. It will be quite embarrassing when your pt140 drops when you unbutton, and even more so if it lands in the toilet! Another thing to consider is which will slow you down more, slight friction from the holster or a pistol that is not secured at all, and may slip.
The holster will keep your pistol secure and in the same place you initially put it. There are plenty of thin lightweight ones out there that do not add any noticeable weight or bulk but do keep your pistol in place. If cost is a concern check out the "glove leather" offerings from high noon holsters. I have two of these and they are thin, light, comfortable, fit their respective handguns quite well, and so far durability has not been a problem. These run considerably less than their top grain or horsehide holsters.
You will probably go through a few holsters until you find one that you like, a few other places to look are gunbroker and I think ebay still allows holster sales, you might be able to find one that fits there that someone else tried but didn't like. Remember what one person finds comfortable or handy might not be so for others, due to personal preference, body type, typical way of dressing, etc.
