Police Interrogation

Police interrogation script? Easy 10 points for best answer?
For an english drama, we're doing a short play about a crime. I'm the police officer, inttogating the suspect, and basically we need the offical statement that they at the beginning and the end, or something simelar, does anyone have any ideas? "E.g. It is [time&date] and this interview is being recorded for the benefit of the court." And that sort of protocol, like reading out the suspects rights ect. 10 points to the best answer - Thanks x
"This interview is being tape recorded and may be given in evidence if your case is brought to trial. The time is 2100 hours on Monday 12th May 2008. This interview is taking place at Sandford Police Station".
"My name is PC 999 Bloggs, I work at Sandford Police Station. My role today is to interview you in relation to the offence(s) you've been arrested for. I will be making notes during the interview purely for my reference. Also present is"...... (Other officer if present to introduce him/herself). Any other persons present to introduce themselves, i.e solicitor or appropriate adult.
"Can you give your full name please........., and your date of birth......... Can you confirm for the purpose of the tape that there are no other persons present in the interview room".
"I now need to caution you, and its important that you understand what the caution means, so you do not have to say anything but it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence. Do you understand?"
Get the suspect to explain the meaning of the caution.
1. They have the right to silence. They do not have to answer your questions if they do not want to, however...
2. This is the opportunity for them to give their version of events. If they decline to answer your questions, then anything they say in court to the contrary may harm their defence. The court may also draw an inference from their silence.
3. Obvioulsy the interview is being tape recorded and that can be produced in court as evidence.
"You have the right to free and independant advice. Do you require the services of a solicitor?"
If they reply "No", ask them "Any reason why not?"
Tell them "If you change your mind at any point let me know and I can stop the interview. You can then speak to a solicitor by phone or in person."
"At the conclusion of the interview I will give you a notice that explains what happens to the tapes and how you or your solicitor can have access to them."
"Ok, tell me why you think you've been arrested?"
Try and use open questions.....What? where? why? how? when? Try not to use closed questions that get a yes or no answer. Try not to lead a suspect.
At the end of the interview ask........
"Is there anything you would like to add or clarify?"
"I'm now handing you the notice that explains what happens to the tapes. The time is now 2130 hours and the interview is concluded and I'm now switching off the tapes."
Three tapes are used in the machine. One becomes a master selected by the suspect (this is then sealed in his or her presence with a tape seal signed by all). The second tape is kept as a police working copy, The third is given to the person if he/ she is charged.

Police Interrogation
can the police record you with out telling you during interrogation?

I was just wondering becaus i thought it was against the law to record some one with out telling them, i was not arrested they just said they were takeing me in for questioning and also they let me go the sameday ?
Wow at some of these answers. First off, the rules that govern interrogation and recordings and Miranda laws and all that other stuff are governed by the Constitution, not each individual state. Secondly, to be "interrogated" you have to be in custody, unless you are consenting to a voluntary questioning. Either way it goes, I do not know any officers that would perform an interrogationn inside someones house or place of work. Most all interrogations take place in a police station or a neutral location. That being said, you as a person/suspect have no expectation of privacy in either of those surroundings, therefore you do not have to be notified of the recording taking place. Prior to any interrogation, you do have to be read your Miranda Rights, and not to hurt any fellow officers cases, but I highly recommend you use your Miranda Rights. Shut up and lawyer up, because just about anything you say during an interrogation (including saying nothing) can help the police's case.
