Safe Arizona Ice
Best route from Monterey to Fargo in December?
I'm not sure about making the drive through mountains with ice and snow - In getting here, I took I-94 and I-90 west throuth Montana to make a stop in Oregon before heading south on I-5. That was in the summer, and probably wouldn't make a good route back.
I've got a packed Chevy Cavalier, and no experience with tire chains. Cutting south with I-40 and up I-29 seems a safe bet, adding 400 miles to the shortest route, but I'm still not sure about the mountains of Southern California, Arizona, or New Mexico.
Any thoughts?
I've not made this specific drive before, but have general experience that should help. In Oregon and California, it is extremely rare that I-5 requires chains on small cars in December. So the trip from Monterey to the Oregon border would be fine. From there, you could look at taking the highway through Klamath Falls and can then travel thorough the high desert. There are some passes using this route, but I would check http://www.tripcheck.com and see what the actual conditions are before traveling. If I-5 is clear, there are also road condition services for Washington and Idaho that would tell you what the conditions are on I-90 and Snoqualime Pass outside Seattle and then to the east. Usually things in December are fairly clear and they keep the freeway open as much as possible. January is more difficult.
I can see nothing wrong with your proposed route, except the extra miles it would add. I'm sure you will make a good decision that works for you.

Is smoking from an aluminum can dangerous?
My old pipe broke, and my bro's in college so I can't buy a new one for a few months. I decided I want to make a bong, so I got a metal socket and a plastic water bottle. Then I realized that it is probably dangerous because fumes from burning plastic is toxic. So I decided to go with an alumnium tall can instead (like an arizona ice tea). Is this safe. And please don't respond by saying smokings not say or something like that because smoking once a week is nothing like binge drinking on a weekly basis.
Your safer and better off using the plastic bong as a temporary fix.
Heres why, aluminum is toxic to smoke from plus your "smoking material" is gonna burn faster and waste by falling into the arizona can.
With the plastic bottle you can adjust the flame so not to melt the plastic. Thats not hard to do i've never melted it. I've used both methods plastic is better.
