Safe Fire Water
What color does phosphoric acid burn? is it safe to burn it? can you put out a fire started by it with water?
me and my friend are going to launch a rocket and are thinking about adding some phosphoric acid. we were wondering if it was safe, because we dont want to start a huge fire. also we think it will be like fireworks so i want to know what color it burns. I know its probably a bad idea but i just want to make sure we wont kill anybody.
Phosphoric acid is not flammable. It won't burn.
However, upon contact with most metals, it will produce hydrogen gas,
which is explosive.
I sincerely recommend against this. While it will make an explosion, it will not be controllable. The hydrogen gas will be released immediately upon contact with metal - not upon lighting a fuse. Also, the gas is not contained - that is, once it is given off, it dissipates into the air. so if you strike a match anywhere in the immediate vicinity you'll have an explosion. It won't wait until your fuse hits the rocket, and it will not send your rocket into the air - it will send everything flying in all directions.
in the rare event that you have something burning with phosphoric acid, yes, you can put it out with water.

just got a new vaillant 428 condencing boiler fitted last week,and boiler will not fire up on hot water only?
Hi all gas safe engineers,I got a vaillant 428 condencing boiler fitted last week,and it will not fire up when i put hot water only on.It will only fire up when i also put centeral heatihg on,It was fitted by a gas safe plumber,I wonder whate;s the matter with him,a he said that it was working allright.Do anybody know what is wrong.
I have a Vaillant "Ecotec Plus" Boiler, and I think it is fantastic!, so get the Gas Engineer back ASAP. Please make sure that he is on the new "Gas Safe Register",because it has replaced Corgi, and you must never take chances with Gas and Electricity!
If he is on the "Gas Safe Register" he will have an ID Card, with a photo, and you can check up on him.
I live in Leicester and the men who did the work for me were great, so please speak to your Engineer again!
