Safe Fruit Cocktail
Do you think this is rude?
i baked a load of cakes and went to a lot of trouble making different foods which were nice to take round to my birthday meal that my parents organise as they never make any effort to make anything they do one pizza and cocktail sausages for lots of people. When i got there, they left all my food in the kitchen so i had to go get it out and put it out and then they didnt bother eating it. They said had i washed the fruit? There was a fly on a cake which there wasnt and is it safe to eat and just left it. I was so upset, they always put me down. I dont know why they feel they have to put me down.
Is it me or is that rude? They are so snobby they wud rather me buy something than make it but i thought it wud be nice to make something and it cost me more to make from scratch than to buy it!
Of course that is rude and wrong. What you did was sweet and considerate and what they did was spiteful and just plain rude. If it was your birthday and I was your parent I would gladly eat anything you made.

Travel: Which Vaccinations are Necessary?
Is it legal to distill already distilled alcohol? And is it safe to do so?
Friends of mine made bowls of cocktails a while ago but forgot to drink it. Is it possible to recover the alcohol from the expired fruits by distilling it? Technically I won't be making new distilled alcohol, so I wonder it would be legal. Since it's not red wine there may not be methanol present. however I'm unsure if the expired fruits(2-3 weeks) would have any influence on this. (I removed (most of) the fruits a week ago or so) . Are there any other ways of extracting the alcohol?
It may also be possible it is still good to drink (without distilling). Normally alcohol stays good a long time (People here even put blackcurrant in a pot with alcohol and let it there for a year, so it get it's flavor). Also I do have an alcoholmeter, and chemistry was a major course back in high school.
Toss it, although the bacteria created by the rotting fruit would have been killed off by the alcohol in the cocktails (presuming it was somewhat strong) there is still risk factors. If you managed to be able to extract the alcohol from the rest of the mix it would likely not taste very good and you would be getting the whole mix not just the rum or vodka or whatever else. It could also be dangerous because you don't know how much alcohol will be in whatever you distill. Rotting fruits and vegetables also excrete certain types of alcohol (not the ethyl that makes up most of what we drink) which would likely be in tiny amounts.
Really, with all the risk factors and the quality of alcohol you could possibly get back out of it it just isn't worth it, dump it down the drain and get some fresh booze.
