Safe Large Secure
rats in my dryer ventilation tubes. how to safley secure the tubing so they quit going in?
we live in the woods on a large hunk of land. we spend an average of $4,ooo a year on rat control. we have animals and cannot use poison but do you traps. we have norwegian rats running around. the pest control company obviously secured the vents on the roof, in my kitchen and for my dryer but this morning i went to put a load of wash in the dryer and of course there is a dead rat in the ventilation tube that runs into the garage. i looked and they are eating there way thru the insulated tube and crawling in. it is wrapped in insulation similar to the kind in my attic. can anyone please recommend a safe way to wrap the tubes so I dont get dead rat in here again. we are getting cats to live in the garage this weekend but i still need this tube secured without being a fire hazard. thanks

Just want to add to that.
If you can do it easily, arrange outside vent end to be as high from the floor as possible using black steel stove pipe, and use the the TOUGHEST wire you can find to exclude them from gaining entry through the vent exit.
More importantly, we all know that knowledge is power. Give a knucklehead a fine rifle, and his family will still starve. Give a knowledgeable hunter a knife, and his family will eat well. So, read up on the habits and control measures at the below link. You will be THEIR worst nightmare!

A relative has a lifetime annuity from an insurance company. Is the annuity safe?
The annuity is 20 plus years old, from a large insurance company. Are future payments safe? Are they secured by cash reserves?
As we have seen all too well, no company can be considered "safe" in this environment. Yes, insurance companies are required to hold cash reserves, but these reserves can change value in a bad environment. However, there are a number of safeguards for insurance companies.
First, every state has a "pool" of money that will pay if an insurance company goes under. The limit can be $100,000 or higher, depending on the state.
Second, and I think most importantly, other insurance companies do not want to see one of their own fail. They will generally buy out the policies and honor them. Why? Publicity. If insurance companies were not to honor their policies, why would anyone ever buy an annuity/life insurance policy again?
I'd say your relative can safely count on this annuity to continue to pay.
