Is skippimg your period with the pill safe?
Im on levlen ed contraceptive pill (i think thats a mini pill) and often skip a period a few months in a row, some people tell me its fine to do, others tell me its harmful long term..??
My doctor said that is it perfectly fine to not have your period for a few months. I used to be on the pill and would skip the last week of "fake" pills and just start a new pack to skip my period. I would only have my period every 3 months. But now I am on Mirena, which I hear can actually stop your period, and the doctor said its safe.
It is not medically necessary to have a monthly period.

is there a safe pill in the market?
my hubby and i have been using condoms from the very start to avoid pregnancy.just last week,we did it without the rubber and we realized it was much more satisfying. i'm planning to use a pill now but most of the pills in the market have numerous side effects like breast enlargement or it would make you fat..is there somthing in the market thats safe?i dont want to look like a hag because of those damd side effects.
I just talked to my gyno about this. He said that all pills are pretty much the same. They MUST list side effects if it happens in 1 in 1000 women. Even Asprin has side effects. Shoot, my B-Complex vitamin makes me nausious if I take it without eating.
The difference in pills is what they chose to advertise for. They must go to the FDA to get approval to advertise for specific benefits. Ortho Tri-Cyclene is popular for preventing acne, but it is no more effective than other pills. Yasmine advertises about less water retention, but also something they are approved to advertise for.
As far as negative publicity - my gyno said that the media takes one little negative thing and blows it out of porpotion. "Humans feed off of negativity, and the media feeds them." My gyno is very insightful...
I'm on the NuvoRing. It's wonderful. You don't have to remember to take it everyday and I have had little to no side effects. The only thing I can tell is that I'm a little more "moist" some days.
He said that he is sure that the ring will soon get the same bad publicity as the patch, but that the truth is that there is a higher mean average of hormones in the body with the ring and the patch. You have a high peak of hormones when first inserted/stuck on then it levels out to a constant. With the pill you have several peaks which could actually be harder on your body and make you more prone to hormonal effects such as mood swings and acne. (I'm less moody after switching from pill to ring.)
It is definatly convienant though. I ALWAYS forgot to take the pill. And the ring has less side effects than the shot, IUD's, and other "don't forget" methods.
