Dust can accumulate very quickly, so I wanted to make sure that I regularly remove dust from my televisions, computers, monitors, DVD players, game consoles, etc.
But what is the safe way to dust off these devices? Do I have to use a lint-free cloth or can I just use a paper towel? Can I dampen the cloth or towel first or do I have to use it dry?
And do I simply just wipe the surface of the electronics like any other surface, or do I have to worry about static electricity and things of the like?
-For your TV, I suggest using a cloth / paper towel and Windex for the screen. Make sure not to use too much. -You can use a damp cloth for every other part that's not glass, while being careful not to get the speakers wet.
-Do the same thing I mentioned first for computer monitors, and the second for the actual CPU of the computer. Make sure not to use too much, as I mentioned.
-With DVD players, if they are portable, use a micro-fiber cloth http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microfiber to wipe off the dust. I always use micro-fiber for my gaming systems, as it doesn't scratch and takes away the most dust. They are inexpensive, too. You can use them for the whole DVD player, but don't wet them up. +If it's a full-sized DVD player, use a damp, warm rag/cloth to wipe it down. Do not get any components wet, though.
-Micro-fiber works on full-sized gaming platforms, too. It's safe because it doesn't harm of any of the buttons and openings in the system. If you REALLY want to, use a cloth that is dampened to the MINIMAL, and wipe the surface that doesn't have openings / buttons, such as the face of a PS3.
-I really hate dust, and it shows up on any electronics that are black, which is the color of most of mine.
-Use Dust-Off to get the dust in small cracks/components and under buttons. It really just blows compressed air out to get rid of the dust and crumbs, but be careful not to inhale it deliberately.
