Safes Rifles Fire How do you clean the cosmoline out of the chamber on the mosin nagant?
Ive read the article on surplus-rifle.com but was hoping for something with pictures and such. Easier for me to make sure i don't fuck up horribly or use the wrong materials. The bolt is a fucking bastard to open after i fire wolf ammo, but with winchester its not near as bad, almost smooth, but i wanted to take a safe route and clean it so if any cosmoline was in there i could get it out
disassemble the weapon, remove each part from the wood sto0ck.
prepare a kitchen sink of hot water (boiling hot would be great), have 1/2 cup laundry soap, 1/2 cup dishwasher soap. mix soaps well until dissolved, use a spoon or stirring rod. stick disassembled parts of the rifle into this water. wait 1/2 hour. drain water 1/2 way, carefully not allow any parts to go down the drain. scrub each part clean of any remaining cosmoline, rinse clean, leave in water until you dry each part by hand, with a towel. Don't leave in water too long, but don't have parts outside to air dry. That will induce rust and other problems. Once its clean the dry, reassemble while adding oil so nothing will rust.

The only way to find out if the firearm is safe to fire is to take it to a competent gunsmith. He will give it a through inspection and let you know if it is a shooter or a wall hanger.
