Which do you think would be the better policy and why?
I heard two opinions today while listening to interviews on my way home. One opinion (I did not catch who was talking) was that the US should engage in talks with Hamas to see if there is a way to secure a more peaceful future for Palestine.
The other, from Condoleezza Rice, was that we should continue to embargo the west bank and ignore Hamas while continuing to keep our support for Fatah. The logic was that opening talks with Hamas would be rewarding a terrorist organization. That by continuing with embargoes and refusing talks that they would eventually lose their power.
Remember that Hamas won parliamentary majority in legal elections that the US insisted upon. Lets also remember that we embargoed Palestine and cut them off from the world. Also that Hamas staged a coup and overthrew the Fatah section of the Palestinian government this year and that they at least were a terrorist organization prior to the elections.
Engaging in dialogue with those who lack the ability to reason is a waste of time.
Let Hamas have their land. They will see what a hell-hole it turns into while the Fatah land, if they cooperate with us, improves.
