Self Defensive
Self Defensive
Do you need aggression to make Aikido practical for self-defense?

Do you need to use aggression (ie punches, kicks, eye gouges, arm breaks, strikes to the groin, biting, brutal tactics, attacking first) to make Aikido practical for self-defense?

Or, is it ok (or work better) to stay defensive? To use the evade-throw-pin process to control an attacker? To hurt him the least you can and focus more on controlling him instead? To use it's peaceful, humanitarian, way of thinking?

In Aikido, its defensive techniques are its offense. If no attack comes, then no technique is needed. You seem to have a lot of confusion about what Aikido is and is not.

Trust that it works, but is difficult to learn. More difficult than many other martial arts. But, it is worth the time and effort. If it did not work, it simply would not still exist and be practiced by many martial artists.

Krav Maga Self Defense Techniques : Front Gun Attack : Krav Maga

SENIORS: Do you think people are ruder and more self-centered than they were a generation ago?

I'm relatively young (21), but a few days ago I got the thought that a decade earlier, people weren't so defensive and self-centered than they seem now.

Maybe it's because of globalization and the fact that we have so many choices and variety in everything, but I don't know...

Do you ever get that feeling, or am I just being paranoid here? =/

Well, I certainly agree that manners and courtesy are on the decent, but "globalization" has nothing to do with it. Not sure why you think that, but the root of this is:
1. Reduced parental investment in children's behavior,
2. Reduced emphasis on proper manners in schools.
