Hammer pull on old west six-shooter?

I notice that the force needed to cock the hammer on a modern, double action revolver is quite a bit. I have fired a single action only weapon, but it's been a while.

Thinking about the skill that is necessary to quick draw an old west style six gun, how hard is the hammer on say a .32 or the legendary Colt .45?

Well... it depends.

My 1851 Colt Navy .36 (Pietta Repro) has a quite light mainspring... that being said, I could c*ck it with my pinky, and it'll still fire... the weight of the hammer does most of the work igniting the cap. It's my choice for fastdraw... the action is ungodly smooth and light. I love it.

My 1858 Remington New Army .44 (Pietta repro)? Eh... not so much. The action on it is fairly heavy... relatively hard to c*ck with any rapidity or fluidity... not to mention that I have fairly small hands and have to kinda stretch the web of my hand over the shoulder of the grip to get my thumb on the hammer...

Honestly, with a little practice, anyone can get fast.
