The Special Operations Volunteer Force was a special program developed by the British and Malayan authorities during the Malayan Emergency. The unit existed from 1952 until the end of the Emergency in 1960. The Malayan Emergency began during the aftermath of the Second World War. As the British tried to repair the Malayan economy, the Malayan Communist Party, or MCP, was organizing protests against labor conditions in the country. As the protests became more effective, the British responded with harsher measures. This in turn caused the protesters to become more militant, culminating in the beginning of organized violence with the assassination of three European plantation managers at Sungai Siput, Perak. Special Operations Patrol Vehicles (Paperback)

Special Operations Patrol Vehicles (Paperback)

$23.84

The patrol vehicles used by Special Operations Forces in Afghanistan and Iraq vary quite dramatically between the theaters as well as amongst the Coalition members, and have been developed and upgraded to meet the demands of the deployment. Covering all the major Coalition nations, Leigh Neville continues his look at the elite forces deployed in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom with this analysis of their vehicles.Tracing the evolution of the vehicle types, from their historical precedents, through their designs to their operational developments, he discusses their advantages and disadvantages, along with their tactical employment. From the mine-protected vehicles used to counter the IED threat in Iraq, the use of Strykers as armored raiding platforms by the US Rangers, to the civilian vehicles adapted for military service by both Coalition troops and Private Military Contractors in the regions, this book uses rare in-theater photographs and color artwork to show the variety and inventiveness of the patrol vehicles being used in combat today.

US ARMY SPECIAL OPERATIONS - IRAQ WAR

Special Operations?

When I think Special Operations, I think stealth...Now, are all spec-ops based around stealth? Or is it just me? Answers are appreciated.

No. The things you see in video games are not what Spec Ops ENTIRELY consist of. I'll name a few.

Marine Force Recon
Navy Seals
Army Rangers
AF Paramedic (kind of...)
Marine FAST

All of the above train in stealth operation, but also in basically everything else tactical and fighting-related. Special Ops are the all-around soldier. They know how to do everything, they're the best of the best, and have the strongest mental states (They need them).

Now not all of those are purely offensive. For example, FAST is a defensive special ops units who train to do everything you'd see a SEAL doing (almost everything) but they do everything from guard nuclear submarines to riot control at embassies, and cooperating with the President's secret service.

Not all are built around stealth, but a low presence establishes a better tactical grounds on their part, so some stealth is always key.

But think about it, are there any units in any armed forces that are supposed to attract attention from the enemy?
