Sprinkler Head Outdoor
whats the farthest distance you can install a sprinkler system?
I have a sprinkler system in my frontyard but want to add my backyard. I caounted the distance and it is about 120 feet in total length. Is one pump enough for this distance>? Or do I add a second which would go about the same distance but less sprinkler heads on it? Are the battery remote single outdoor valves any good? I'm thinking of adding one of these on this line instead of rewireing the existing system
The farther the distance the greater the pressure drop. To keep the pressure high at a distance you need to run larger pipe. If you run a large enough pipe the pressure drop will be very little. I think if you run a 2 inch pipe it will be good. A 4 inch pipe will probably be bigger than you need.
Depends on the gallons per minute you want to put out too. I run a 4 inch pipe for 20 gallons per minute.

SprinklerRepair101 - 4" pop-up spray
I cut an electical line to an outdoor outlet.?
I was replacing PVC and sprinkler heads in my lawn and I mistakenly cut an electrical line that was going to an outdoor outlet. The line is not completely cut and it still works but will shut off when wet. What is the best way to fix it without digging up the entire lawn? Thanks
You need to set a raintight junction box at the cut place. Once you make the splice (be sure and make a good tight splice) all you need is some 3M ScotchKote Electrical Splice Coating. Twist the splice good with your pliers and then apply the ScotchKote directly on the splice. Then fill your wirenut up with the ScotchKote and twist it on to the splice.
Tape it with some vinyl electrical tape and then wrap that with some rubber tape. Then apply more ScotchKote on the tape wrap. This will prevent any moisture getting to your splice. Don't be shy with the ScotchKote. Get it everywhere on the wires and you won't have a problem with moisture or the splice.
I have repaired many underground splices with this stuff and it is the best thing to use. I won't waste my money on anything else. ScotchKote is made for what you are doing.

Water used per area of surface is being reduced by more efficient use such as drip/trickle feed, and monitoring fields with ability to control each sprinkler head independently. (Nothing like a shortage to motivate that – read The Doomsday Myth by Charles Maurice and Charles Smithson.)
But area may increase if the savings are still available for irrigation.
