Stack Total Defense
Does anyone want to show me Matt Stafford's potential?
I don't see it. He had two STACKED Georgia teams and won a total of ZERO SEC Championships. He almost lost to Michigan State in his senior season on a UGA team that had Knowshon Moreno and a great defense too.
BTW, he threw a 1 YD TD pass to a wide open receiver against freaking Cleveland, with great pass protection. He hurt his non-throwing shoulder. Not that hard to do.
He has a rocket arm, is pretty accurate and though he did have some weapons around him at UGA he also had a borderline terrible offensive line, and as a QB I'd rather have pass protection than weapons.
Its a joke that people think that Bradford is in his class as a prospect. Bradford came from a borderline spread offense, had dominant pass blocking and made a living off high percentage passes, while Stafford slung it deep on a regular basis, played in a very pro style offense and was constantly forced to make quick decisions.
If you can't see his potential you're either probably a fan of another SEC team or you have no idea how to evaluate talent.
For the record I'm a Michigan fan (but I'm obviously not a Lions fan, I only root for out of NYC teams in college football), so I have no personal bias as far as Stafford goes.

Football Coaches- 4 - 4 Stack Defense OR Base 5 - 3?
I coach youth football.......8-10 year olds. Last year we gave up a total of 8 TD's in 9 games and went 8-1 running the base 5 -3. The good thing about the 5 - 3 is you clog the line but also are able to get your subs into the interior of that line 3 at a time so they can get their minimum plays. I am leaning towards the 4 - 4 this year because we have 2 studs at OLB and 2 studs at ILB. I have both returning starting DE's and can work the inside of the line with my minimum play kids they just won't get their plays as quickly as when we ran the 5-3. For anyone that has ever ran the defense or know of it how basic is it as far as gap asignments and all to teach to the boys? Like I said, I have 8 of my returners back on D when the A team takes the field so I have alot to work with. If I go to a 5 - 3 then I am losing talent at one of my LB spots. Sure I could work them into a SS role and bring them up to the strong side with the LB's but still.......so any help is appreciated.

I have a simple 5-2 package that I have as a back up. I also have a 4-2-5 defensive package that can easily be converted into a 4-4 that contains a simple cover 3.
