Theft Deterrent Light
Anyone know about passive theft deterrent and content theft deterrent?
I have a 2009 Pontiac Vibe. My owner's manual talks about having the passive theft deterrent and immobilizer and talks about the security light flashing. The dealer told me my car doesn't have the system. Why does it talk about security light flashing when the system is armed if I don't have the system? I know I don't have the content theft deterrent system (but that's different... it was an option).
simply put if you have key-less entry (factory installed) with the panic button you have theft deterrent. If someone gets a copy of your key or breaks in and tries to hotwire the car then the engine will be disable because the key has to be programed to the car and without that(hotwire) the theft deterrent shuts the asd relay off and the engine will not start.

Asianwolf Red LED Scanner for Car Alarm Security System
Is it important to get an advanced car alarm system?
I just bought 2008 Mazda 3 and it's not equipped with alarm system, although it has theft deterrent (indicator light that will flash every 30 seconds) near the odometer.. I used to own Honda and it got broken in twice. SO I'm just wondering is it essential to get an alarm system installed for my Mazda? Please somebody help me, I'm pretty much an amateur when it comes to cars. Thanks!
I would suggest a tracking device, as well. I agree that nobody cares about the sound of car alarm went off anymore, we've grown used to it. For poster above me, I think Mazda3 already has an immobilizer - since the car won't start without the exact 2 Mazda keys provided when purchased.

I would think an obnoxiously colored bike would be a theft deterrent. They stand out too much. If you steal it and the owner sees you with it it’s not like you can say it’s just the same bike.
