which is better the lever type faucet or the knob type faucet?

Well, they both have their advantages.
Double lever faucets are the same as knobs... its just that the handle has that extra 'paddle' on it, making it easier to operate. (handicap accessible). These types of faucets, as someone mentioned, have 'packing', a rubber/plastic washer, which does wear out over time. They are fairly easy to replace though, and inexpensive to maintain. A 'repair' kit for these types of faucets is usually only a few dollars, and you get everything for the inside of the faucet.
A SINGLE lever faucet is VERY easy to operate, and inside it, is a plastic device, or 'cartridge'. Typically, these last a bit longer than the 'knob/double lever' faucets, but the drawback is the cost of replacing that cartridge. They can run anywhere from $15 to $50, depending on the brand.
Ultimately, you should decide on how you would like to use it. A single lever faucet is much more 'user friendly'. If this is for a kitchen, you might even want to consider the type where the spout pulls out from the base, and becomes a sprayer, as opposed to having a separate sprayer taking up space.

What is the advantage of a third lever system?
In a third class lever an effort force larger than the resistance is needed. What is the advantage of this type of lever system? Why whould someone wanna use it?
Third class levers reduce the distance you need to move the forcing point. You'd use it when the load is very light, and you don't want to move the driving force (your hand, or piston, or whatever) too far, or when you want the end of the lever to move faster than the driving point can move.
An example might be an old-fashioned hand held fan (like fanning yourself with a newspaper, or something) - you move the handle of the fan back and forth maybe 3 or 4 inches, and the fan moves a foot, moving lots of air across your face.
Same sort of thing for, say, a tennis racket. (Not a pure lever system, but the same idea). Here you hand moves slowly through an arc, but the racket - further out on the lever - moves much faster.
