Yourself From Crime

If you have ever committed a crime (murder, theft, rape, etc.), are you...?
If you have ever committed a crime (murder, theft, rape, etc.), are you absolved from the responsibility of what you did by ceasing to do it any more? Can you redeem yourself merely by virtue of not committing that crime any more? Why or why not?
In America the Justice system demands swift and fair retribution and/or punishment.
The promise never to commit the crime again isn't acceptable as a plea.

| | Crime Stoppers $79.66 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Crime Stoppers or Crimestoppers is a program separate from the emergency telephone number system, that allows a member of the community to provide anonymous information about criminal activity. It thereby allows the person to provide crime solving assistance to the authorities without being directly involved in the investigation process. That person could also be eligible for a reward if the reported information results in an arrest and/or prosecution. Crime Stopper programs are operated in many communities worldwide. Crime Stoppers USA is a part of Crime Stoppers International. The authorities, especially the police, cannot solve many crimes on their own. Forensic science and investigative skills are vital, along with information from the public. Crime Stoppers recognizes that someone other than criminals may have information about crime, and was developed to combat the publics fear of reprisals, public apathy, and a reluctance to get involved. The program provides anonymity and pays rewards when their information leads to an arrest and/or conviction. | | Economics of Crime $79.66 Economics of Crime presents the basic model of criminal behavior and law enforcement. The authors start by reviewing the economics of criminal behavior. Models of criminal behavior applying the model of individual rational behavior are presented. Empirical studies surveyed use regression analyses and employ data from states and police regions down to individuals. These studies tend to support the hypothesis that the probability of punishment and the severity of punishment have a deterrent effect on crime. Methodological problems relating to the assumption of rationality, statistical identification of equations, measurement errors, and operationalization of theoretical variables are discussed. Economics of Crime also review the theory of public enforcement including probability and severity, fines and imprisonment, repeat offenders, incentives of enforcers, enforcement costs and enforcement errors. Economics of Crime is intended for economists and lawyers, practitioners, scholars and students in the field of law and economics, microeconomics, and criminology who wish to learn the basics of the economics of crime, criminal behavior, and law enforcement. | | Crime in Omaha $108.33 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Crime in Omaha, Nebraska has varied widely, ranging from the citys early years as a frontier town with typically widespread gambling and prostitution, to civic expectation of higher standards as the city grew, and contemporary concerns about violent crimes related to gangs and dysfunctions of persistent unemployment, poverty and lack of education among some residents. As a major industrial city into the mid20th century, Omaha shared in social tensions of larger cities that accompanied rapid growth and many new immigrants and migrants. By midcentury Omaha was a center for illicit betting, while experiencing dramatic job losses and unemployment because of dramatic restructuring of the railroads and the meatpacking industry, as well as other sectors. Persistent poverty resulting from discrimination and job loss generated different crimes in the late 20th century, with drug trade and drug abuse becoming associated with violent crime rates, which climbed after 1986 as Los Angeles gangs made affiliates in the city. Since the 1990s crime has been reduced for the city overall. Should you turn yourself in for a crime you committed before you were saved?
California prohibits juries from hearing about 'jury nullifcation' right, wrong? why?
California law prohibits anyone from instructing the jury that they have the power to nullify the application of a law.
The concept of jury nullification dates back to the creation of trial by peers. It was deemed a stop gap measure where the jury could judge the merit of the application of a law in a particular case to prevent prosecutors from applying laws in an overly-broad or tyrannical way, or an overly broad or ill-conceived law.
The basic premise is that the jury can deem that even though a law may have been broken, there are enough extenuating circumstances that the person should not be found guilty of the crime.
This is similar to, and part of the basis of, the 'self-defense' not guilty plea. The person may have injured or killed another person, but that the law should not be applied as there are extenuating circumstances - it was in the act of defending yourself from the person.
Should the courts be able to restrict knowledge of this power?
It is wrong. A jury should know about the right of jury nullification.
